THE NOLMAR STORY
“Customer
Service…And Then Some”
Since its founding in 1977 by the late Nolan A. Marshall, Sr., Nolmar
Corporation has been committed to the highest standards of industry
service. The company not only bears Nolan Marshall’s name, but reflects
his firm belief in giving more to exceed customer expectations – a
practice that has become its hallmark. After reading an inspiring message
scrawled on a lamppost in Manhattan early in his career, he transformed
the phrase, “and then some,” into a personal credo for running
a successful business. It is now Nolmar’s operating philosophy. (See
box below.)
Mr. Marshall, who had been an independent salesman for nearly three decades,
established Nolmar after venturing into selling janitorial supplies and industrial
chemicals from his home and delivering them from the trunk of his car. He found
that his customers often requested a service when purchasing supplies. Following
the entrepreneurial dictate of “find a need and fill it,” he eventually offered
janitorial services and facilities maintenance, as well as waterproofing and
roofing work.
A visionary leader, Nolan Marshall astutely identified the growing
demand for the products and services of this industrial enterprise.
He also understood the strategic importance of building strong business
relationships. Additionally,
he was able to assemble a gifted administrative and sales staff whose
performance earned Nolmar its impeccable reputation for customer service.
A key part of that team, Bobby Donnes, was Nolmar’s vice president for
22 years and helped Mr. Marshall to grow this small business into a multi-faceted
industrial services company. Together they expanded Nolmar’s operational
scope to encompass a broader range of construction services, facilities maintenance
services, oilfield supplies, and industrial distribution services. Nolmar
was then reorganized to provide some of these goods and services through
separate limited liability companies and alliances.
While Nolmar’s initial success and enduring legacy were driven
by the singular talents and business acumen of Nolan Marshall, its
subsequent growth emerged as new and diverse opportunities opened.
With the death of the founder in 2003, Nolmar began its ongoing transition
into a vibrant second-generation enterprise.
The passing of the baton at Nolmar Corporation placed Robyn Marshall-Wallace,
Mr. Marshall’s daughter, at the helm as Chairman and CEO and his son,
Allison Marshall, became President. They set out to build upon the
company’s outstanding track record to position Nolmar to become a more
competitive player in the 21st century marketplace in the Greater New
Orleans Area and beyond.
As they charted a course for the company’s operational continuity, late
August 2005 brought new and unprecedented challenges. The onslaught
of Hurricane Katrina caused extensive flooding in the mid-city area
that submerged Nolmar’s physical plant under six feet of water. Like
so many other New Orleans businesses, the company faced the long and
arduous process of rebuilding from the ground up without a major disruption
of service.
After relocating to Houston, where a satellite Nolmar office had been
established, the company worked tirelessly to re-open its New Orleans
headquarters, which occurred in May 2007. Just as Nolan Marshall saw
the untapped opportunities inherent in the industrial and janitorial
supplies market, his heirs realized that the post-Katrina restoration
of their city – along with other growth initiatives under way – would
require many of Nolmar’s services, products and demonstrated capacities.
Today, Nolmar Corporation has made tremendous strides in re-emerging
as a respected industry and community leader. It focuses on three core
operational areas – Commercial Construction, Facilities Maintenance and Industrial
Distribution Services – with increased capacity and resources added
to Nolmar’s divisions by strategic alliances and partnerships. The company
currently operates a diverse portfolio of private and public sector projects.

As a family-owned and self-contained business, Nolmar continues
to be guided by its founding philosophy of the importance of customer
service and dedication to investing in its corporate team, delivery
system, and the community. Accordingly, it has evolved into a successful
second-generation corporation with an exciting future as a key player
in the growth and development of the City of New Orleans, the State
of Louisiana, the nation and the global arena.
THE NOLMAR PHILOSOPHY
The difference between success and failure is sometimes
very little, but it’s that little which makes the difference. Hence,
the key to success is often found in three little words…AND THEN SOME.
Many of us do only what we are told to do; what,
in effect, we have to do. Therein lies the difference. It’s
where most people quit that success begins…AND THEN SOME.
There
is no great variance in the talents of men, no wide margin of opportunity. It’s
more that some do enough to merely get by, while others give to their
every task the best they have…AND THEN SOME.
